What We Do
IPSA has been supporting the power system industry for over 50 years with our quality-driven software, tailor-made product solutions, comprehensive services and expert-led training.Â
Quality- Driven Independent Software
IPSA (Interactive Power System Analysis) started life as a Ph.D. project at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST) in 1974. It was the first power system analysis software to have a graphical user interface. By 1975 the first version was up and running on an IBM mainframe at MANWEB, and in 1978 work began on the transient stability analysis features. The first commercially available version of the program, IPSA 2, went on sale two years later.
Industry-Leading Product Solutions
IPSA creates customer-tailored product solutions built to enhance the user experience and simplify complex studies.
Along with IPSA, the Software and Solutions (S&S) Team and the Networks and Innovations(N&I) Team at TNEI have built many bespoke programming solutions that have aided the analysis of network problems. From the contingency analysis functionality that can map the effective network feasibility for power in Scotland, to practical network charging strategies across the board for various consultancies around the UK, building up code infrastructure with IPSA as a backbone has been a pillar of TNEI’s investigative work.
